General Information of Lampang


   Lampang is situated in Northern Thailand with an area of 12,534 square kilometers. It is the fifth largest city in the North after Chiang Mai, Tak, Mae Hongson, and Phetchaboon.

Geography

       
      Lampang sits on a plateau with the altitude of 268.80 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by mountains range from the north to the south with a plain in the middle.


Upper part of the province is a mountainous area covered with dense forest in Jaehom, Wangnue, Muang Pan and Ngao districts.


Central part of the province is the river plain which is the main agricultural area of Lampang in Muang, Hangchat, Koh Kha, Mae Tha and Sopprap districts.


Southern part of the province is the dry deciduous forest and grassland area in Thoen, Mae Phrik, and part of Sermngam and Mae Tha districts.







Climate

       Since Lampang is surrounded by mountains in every direction, the general climate is hot all year round. The temperatures in summer and winter are varied; average temperature in summer is 41.5 Celsius and 10.5 Celsius in winter. The average rainfall intensity is 1,098 ml.


There are 3 seasons in Lampang:

Summer : begins in March to May, the hottest month is April.


Rainy  :season begins in mid-May.


Winter : starts in November to February, the coldest month is January.






Demographics


The population of Lampang is 781,260 ; 386,151 males and 395,109 females.
The most populated district is Muang Lampang with 229,947 residents.

1 animal conservation area.

       Lampang is an important source of minerals and fossil fuels, including lignite, kaolin, marble, granite, ballclay and wolfram.
